A cool and dry March promoted regular budburst, followed by good growth in April, 8 days ahead of an average year. The climate remained favorable in May, with rapid and homogeneous flowering from the last days of May to the first days of June for Merlot, with a harvest forecast in the upper average. But the summer of 2014 was unstable, with alternating beautiful days and rainy spells. August was gloomy, and veraison spread considerably. Morale was low in mid-August, with green berries scattered among the beautiful, perfectly verai-soned bunches... By cutting short our winemakers' holidays to meticulously carry out, at forced march, a selection process, row by row and vine by vine, to remove all bunches with delayed veraison, we eliminated the heterogeneity\u003cbr\u003ethat threatened to compromise this vintage. The dedication and professionalism of our teams paid off. But this effort was sublimated by the month of September.
