Description
A grand multi-vintage champagne, seductively refined and complex
The property
Founded in Reims in 1776, Louis Roederer Champagne House has remained family-owned and independent. After more than 200 years of existence, Louis Roederer House is still in the hands of the same family. Today, led by Frédéric Rouzaud, representing the seventh generation of the lineage, Louis Roederer House embodies the excellence of Champagne wines worldwide through cuvées crafted like works of art.
The vineyard
With nearly 241 hectares of vines, Louis Roederer House draws its strength from its extraordinary vineyard, composed solely of Grand and Premier Crus in the Marne Valley, Montagne de Reims, and Côte des Blancs. A true mosaic of terroirs, Louis Roederer House's vineyard is divided into 410 plots that reflect the full diversity of Champagne's soils.
The wine
To further enhance the quality of the house's multi-vintage blends and to bring more transparency to the blends, Louis Roederer has embarked on a new approach with the creation of Collection.
Crafted from grapes sourced one-third each from the vineyards of "La Rivière," "La Montagne," and "La Côte," Collection consists of a base vintage, reserve wines aged in wood, and wines from the "perpetual reserve" started in 2012, which follows the principles of the solera system. A supply from a rigorous selection of plots from partner growers complements the house's grapes. Each edition of Collection is thus unique yet always representative of the Roederer identity and expertise.
Base vintage and reserves
243 for the house's 243rd blend since its creation. Louis Roederer's Collection 243 is a cuvée made from the 2018 vintage, to which 10% of reserve wines aged in wood (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) and 31% of perpetual reserve (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) have been added.
Vinification and aging
26% of the blend undergoes malolactic fermentation. Collection 243 was aged for 3 to 4 years in the cellar. Its dosage is 8 g/litre.
